Hunting in Wayne County

Hey all! So I just got back from going on a hunting/camping trip with the family. My brother Matt drew a Bull Elk tag and so he asked Cole to guide him...So we took the kids and joined my parents and some siblings and went for 5 days. One morning I went with Cole, Matt, and my older brother Casey to go out looking for a big bull elk that Cole and Matt had seen the night before...Well we left really early, rode the 4-wheelers up a crazy rocky mountain trail (it was fun!) and then hiked out in the dark and were seated beneath a tree when we started hearing some elk begin to bugle. Well Cole had warned us that if a bull came out of the trees by us, to make sure and sit totally still and make NO movements!...Well moments later a bull came out of the trees to our left. It was still pretty dark, but we could see it and it was walking right toward us! My heart was pounding! I wasn't really scared, but it was crazy! The elk came within 10 feet of us and stopped, turned it's head and looked right at us. It could definitely see us, but it wasn't sure if we meant danger...so we just stayed frozen...I was a little scared it would come closer, (it was plenty close for my liking..haha)...it walked a few feet away and bugled! It was crazy! Then it looked at us again...and finally decided we were nothing to worry about and it walked off! It was nuts!! My brother didn't shoot this one, because it was not the one we were waiting for, it was just a little one that follows the big one around hoping to steal one of the cow elk that are with the big one....Anyway this was my first elk hunting experience and it was pretty cool! Matt still hasn't got that big bull...they were up on it last night and my husband would have had a shot (but he isn't the one with the tag)...they hope to be able to get a shot on it tomorrow night when they go out again...
Anyway this may have been a boring read...but it was exciting for me! :)

How crazy! It's fun that you got to go camping/hunting with the family. How's life and work? Hope things are good.

I would have been so scared. I prefer the safety of my walls. :) So glad you had a great time though.
