Colors

Last Saturday, the kids and I were going to attend the Hare Krishna temple's Festival of Colors...but when I arrived at the fairgrounds for the shuttle and was waiting for cousin's Jenny and Sarah to arrive with jenny's kids...I could not believe the MASSES of people riding the shuttles out and walking to the temple...It was a bit overwhelming for me, and I totally wussed out at the last minute and took the kids swimming instead (Shyler's choice).
Jenny had made us some bags of colored corn starch for the festival, that she had graciously still given to us, even though we didn't actually go...So Monday night for Family Home Evening, my mom came over (Cole was in Colorado) and we dyed eggs, and then went in the back yard and had our very own Festival of Colors!

A new book for you to read...

My sister-in-law Keary is a writer. She has just recently self-published a book, "Branded: Fall of Angels", which is available on Amazon both in paperback, but also the kindle version. (Did you know you can download Kindle to your PC for free?? YEP!)

Anyhoo... So back to Keary and her book. I am not a writer (as you may have already noticed while reading my blog.. lol) So, I'd like to link you up to a mutual friend's blog where she has written a great review that I just don't have the skills to do. haha.

Anyway I agree with Jenni and think everyone should read it. The kindle version is just $1.99 and the book is only $10.00!
Support my sister, read the book!

Jump Club pics... Finally!

FINALLY some pictures from Jump Club. My camera does HORRIBLE with action, so the pics aren't great.

Ready to Ride

Easton loves riding the motorcycle or 4-wheeler with his dad. Saturday he helped daddy change the oil on the motorcycle and then dad agreed to take him for a ride. So Easton ran and got his helmet (I love it, cause it makes his head look so huge! haha)

My little Author

Yesterday as I was emptying Shyler's backpack, I found a book she wrote and illustrated...

"Ixsidid (Excited)"

"By Shyler Mecham"

"Today I am getting my ears pierced"

"And I am excited"

"I love it." (the I is under the crease)

A Surprise for Mommy

Shyler had been hinting at some kind of surprise the last few days...and once I even heard her ask Cole if she could tell me, and he said, "no!" So I've been a bit suspicious....Yesterday the big secret/surprise was revealed and let me tell ya...I was nowhere even close in guessing!

If I was being totally honest...my first reaction after the shock was..."I can't believe he did that..I missed out on a huge moment in my daughter's life!" But I quickly quieted that selfish thought and realized, what a great dad Cole is that he would take Shyler to do that. So I have to remember that I can share the big moments with my other half, it doesn't always have to be about me!

Doesn't she look so cute!?

Happy Lil' Girl

We finished (most of) Shyler's room and moved her in on Wednesday night. We didn't paint the closet shelves or the molding around the door...but we'll get to those in time... She was SO excited to be in her new room. And all the furniture is new (to us). She's been asking for a vanity, so my mom gave me our old one from when we were kids...it needs a new paint job for sure, but she's happy with it. The dresser is from my sister and we need to replace some knobs on it. Yay for being done (for now)!

The Mechams have been busy!

The nightmare that is our "outside" laundry room returned...The drain was backed up and our washer was draining all over the laundry room floor and into the garage... great! Luckily we have some great plumbers (official ones too) in Cole's family and his uncle Frank and cousin Scott came over Saturday and helped us replumb the bathroom upstairs and also move the washer and dryer to the basement. WOOHOO!! No more freezing my butt off to go do laundry!

My little plumber in training. He got his tool box out and everything!Funny story: So Easton's room upstairs has a trap "door" in the closet that exposes the bathroom pipes which lead down into our storage room. Well uncle Frank had opened that "door" up to get to the pipes and then gone back to the basement working on stuff. Easton and Shyler were having fun yelling/looking down the hole as Frank and Scott worked... Well at one point I was in the basement talking with them. Frank was up on a ladder under the hole/door thing and Shyler was talking and teasing him from inside Easton's room.. Well Frank was laughing, but then I heard him say, "Hey! Don't poke me with a stick!" Shyler had gotten a walking stick from Easton's room and was telling Frank "Down!" and poking him through the hole! hahahahaha. Frank laughed, we all did. But I think it was kinda getting on his nerves too, afterall he was working! hahaha.
Shyler's Room
Yes, yes...it's still not done! But we are SOOOOOOOO close!!! Cole and I spent the weekend priming it, and last night I painted it white. I still plan to do an accent wall, but I think I'll work on that after she's moved in! So tonight we'll be putting some trim on and moving her in! Yay!

Almost there.

We are almost done with Shyler's room!
Cole finished the final section of the sheetrock last night. So tonight he (or I...but most likely "he") will sand that. Then Cole (he already informed me that I will not be doing this- I might screw it up he said) will texture the walls and ceiling. Hopefully by tomorrow night I can begin some painting!

Still not done...ugh

Ok...remodeling...takes...FOREVER!
Saturday morning I woke up and headed down to sand the mud on the ceiling...Shyler thought I looked so funny...
I am COVERED in sheetrock dust. My hair looked like a gray wig.
My favorite part of the photo...my white "Charlie Chaplin/Hitler" mustache... haha

Seeing Spirits

Shyler has been saying and doing some funny things lately... So yesterday after church, she says, "Mom, I can see your spirit." I said, "Really? How?"... Here is her response.....
